Free Inservice Opportunity for Home-Based Childcare Providers Through KTWU’s Ready To Learn

Monday, October 25th, 2010

In January, 2011, KTWU public television will begin to offer Early Childhood Providers/Educators the convenience of KTWU’s Ready to Learn Media Literacy workshops.

KTWU will broadcast the workshops on KTWU on alternate Saturday and Sunday mornings, and is teaming with i-Tunes University
to make this training available online 24/7 through “KTWU Ready to Learn on Demand”. Thanks to funding from an ARRA award from the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services, KTWU is piloting this new service by making it available to 210 home based providers in the station’s Eastern Kansas viewing area.

This media literacy training, which includes information on the availability of free education resources over-the-air and online, is approved by Kansas Department of Health and Environment for 2 hours of in-service for early childhood providers. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate for those hours as well as a package of program-rich materials to use with the children in their care. Participants will have to have access to a computer and the internet to pre-register and to take an online mastery test at the end of the training. As KTWU prepares to launch this service, think of home-based providers in your area that might be interested in participating. If you would like more information, please contact Beth Perry, Ready to Learn Coordinator at KTWU,, or 785-670-3177.
