Sunflower Journeys’ 24th season premieres on Thursday, September 29, at 7 p.m. on KTWU-HD, Digital Channel 11.1. The new season will be celebrating 150 years of Kansas statehood throughout 13 all-new programs. In our kick-off episode, we set the tone with a story that looks at what happened in Topeka on Kansas Day in 2011, as the state officially launched our sesquicentennial. We next visit the Kansas Statehood Ball in Abilene and see the period dances and attire that help us get a feel for the era. In the “Plains People” segment, historian Dale Nimz walks us through a project to document existing structures that were built in the territorial days of Kansas. Dave Kendall, pictured, hosts.
