What’s it like to be afraid to get sick?

Afraid because you can’t pay for the doctors?…or the hospital?… or the medicine?

This month on KTWU’s I’VE GOT ISSUES we try to find out what that is like for thousands right here in Kansas.

IGI concludes the unprecedented 3-month mini-series on the topic of Health Care this month. On Wednesday, May 25, at 7 p.m. on KTWU-HD, digital channel 11.1, I’VE GOT ISSUES presents AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE: A PATIENT’S PERSPECTIVE.

Hosted by Janet Thompson Jackson, the May episode now brings the Health Care issues home in a discussion of the patient’s perspective.

Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger is scheduled to appear. IGI will talk with her specifically about how the Health Exchanges will work in Kansas.

Also appearing is physician Jane Murray who has written a recent book about health care issues in this country, “BE THE CHANGE, Transforming Health Care From the Inside Out”.

And we will have some local Kansans with their real issues with family coverage and retirement insurance.

KTWU’s “I’VE GOT ISSUES” takes on the topic of Health Care in an unprecedented 3-month mini-series. Concentrating on the issues Americans are facing, the March, April and May programs will deal with this specific topic.

Hosted by Maureen Mahoney, the first Health Care program on Wednesday, March 30 at 7 p.m. on KTWU, Digital Channel 11.1, will examine the Affordable Care Act (the federal health reform law) and the attributes and potential pitfalls that come with it.

The President says his opponents call it a job crushing, granny threatening, budget busting monstrosity. Why are people so divided over the Act? What’s good about it? What are
the criticisms? And how does it affect each of us?

Guest interviews will include experts in this field including United States Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius. Also participating in the March program is Judy Baker, Kansas Regional Director for Health and Human Services.

The Topeka Community Foundation has provided the funding for the production of this program.
