Brown at 60
On this edition, IGI features comments from First Lady Michelle Obama addressing the 2014 high school graduating classes of Topeka USD 501. Program guests include Dale Cushinberry, former principal of Highland Park High School, who recalls the changes that came about in Topeka following the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in the Brown case and Donna Rae Pearson, local history librarian at Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, who describes the StoryCorps project in which local residents interviewed each other about their experiences.
Also commenting is Reggie Robinson, professor of law at Washburn University School of Law, who explains the manner in which Brown v. Board laid the groundwork for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Janet Thompson Jackson hosts the IGI series.
