Parents In Prison
One in 28 children in the U.S. now has a parent behind bars, more than the number of kids with a parent who is deployed.
In conjunction with Sesame Workshop’s outreach campaign, “Little Children, Big Challenges: Incarceration,” KTWU’s I’VE GOT ISSUES explores the challenges families face when parents are incarcerated.
The program will examine the resources available to assist children with the emotional roller coaster that exists with having an incarcerated parent, as well as the resources available for interaction between incarcerated parents and their children.
Guests include Brian Cole, Director of Corrections, Shawnee County; Shirley Miller, Executive Director of the Gracious Promise Foundation in Kansas City, Kansas; and Carla Simpson, who describes the challenges firsthand.
Janet Thompson Jackson hosts the IGI series.
